We got 2 heifers for breeding with Wallace eventually. And we got one steer named Beef...he will take a few years to get to size. This weather doesn't seem to bother them with their rain-resistant thick coats.

From Wallace, Piggy Sue, Charlotte, Lucy Goosey and Spot, The Chickens, & The Pups (Fen, Kali, Sheba).

2025 Growing season is here already :) Feels so good to get my hands in the dirt again planting all the cold hardy veggies and flowers that can stand a bit of frost. Hopefully they all make it. Fingers 🤞 Farmstand opening soon likely in May or June when we get it built for veggies eggs and flower sales!

"Look out! Who gave this woman a blow torch?!" My dad brings out the fire extinguisher as a joke...but for real, safety first.

This landscape jig that i made came in real handy for burning the holes into the ground cover I'm using for the retail cutting garden. I planted the cold hardy flowers like snap dragons, statice, stock, laceflower and dill, and tucked them in to hope for the best.

They'll comprise the first beautiful market bouquets in a few months.

Every time I think today's the day to plant these beauties then it dumps snow or we get sick! All these cool season flowers and veggies have been hardened off already overnight in the mini greenhouse with multiple nights below 0C but now I just have to get the beds prepped with landscape fabric and plant them out with row covering.

These beautiful flowers are going to be just the start of our late spring/early summer bouquets.

Fingers 🤞 I can get it done soon.

Our living excavators are hard at work now that the snow is gone. Berkshire Mangalitsa cross Piggy Sue and Charlotte have the natural rooting tendency and power we are harnessing to turn our forest into pasture and usable land.

While this super power is not good for every farm situation, especially if you have a small homestead or yard that you don't want destroyed, it's perfect for our situation and application. I can't wait to show off the final result after we seed and rest the area they've been in.

Vegetable seed starting has officially begun now for us and for the farmstand! These cold-hardy crops will be transplanted out to the field in April and ideally ready for harvest in June/July for the farmstand. In this episode we set up fencing to move Wallace, our highland cow bull over to a newly created forest paddock so he can start his work mowing down the weeds and brush. We also got another kind of mower to help us with some other farm work.

1.) The Automatic @runchickendoor that opens and closes automatically with the light conditions at dawn and dusk.
2.) The Gravity chicken feeder we built using the feed cups kit and a black garbage can with a lid.

Truly bulletproof house plants ready for anyone who's struggled to keep house plants alive. I used to be that person until I found the right plants.

These parent plants have survived a 4000km move across the country. They even survived when we lived in the trailer, through heat waves and Hurricane Lee we had here in 2023.

Pre-order grass raised meat chickens check out our website. Another meal made from the food we grew ourselves (except for the cranberry and the sour cream) and it tastes so good when you put in all the effort of growing it.

Our little darlins are 6 months old now and getting so big so fast! They outgrew their shelter already so we had to build them a bigger one and expand the fenced area for them to keep exploring and rooting up the stumps.

Every season, we set up our big year goals on the GOAL whiteboard, and then each month we lay out all our plans and goals broken down by week. Then, we sync our personal planners and phones to try and stay committed and on schedule. These magnetic schedules stay on the fridge so we can easily see it every day.

Most of our chickens prefer the top 2 roosts and get there quickly to secure their positions. This chicken likes to go to sleep in the nesting box and then has to find a new spot on the roost when we close up the box for the night. She eventually annoys enough of her friends to give up a spot.

We decided to install a light in the chickens coop because they just were hardly laying any eggs. Chickens do need the winter to rest and re'COOP'erate for the spring ahead but with 27 hens freeloading we put up a solar light to add just a couple hours of daylight for a few extra eggs. We'll see if it works. 🤞

🐔As Spring nears closer we will be starting to save fertilized eggs from our pure Barred Rock as well as our Barnyard mixed chickens. If you want a dual purpose chicken for both egg and meat production Barred Rock is a fantastic option. I would say they're even triple purpose in that they are exceptionally good at foraging and turning compost.

The last harvest of my first Fall planted garden! Even with Negative temps down to -11C overnight these leaves on the carrot bed kept the ground and carrots from freezing. Now we get to enjoy these crispy sweet carrots for a while longer. So good:)
